In the News: 1st Openly Gay Bishop
Thursday August 7, 2003
Rev. V. Gene Robinson was elected as the Episcopal church's first gay bishop by a vote of 62-45 despite last minute allegations of inappropriate behavior. The church remains split over his confirmation, but the archbishop of Canterbury gives his full support. You can alsosupport Bishop Robinson by writing the Episcopal Church USA.

Have just read a statement (by somone) saying that a Bishop Ribinson (of the Episcopal Chruch) is “the first gay bishops”. If this means “in the Episcopal Church” that may be…but hardly the “first bishop publicly and openly gay”. I was ordained a priest of the Orthodox Catholic Church of America in l946 (openly gay) and made a bishop (openly gay) in l957.
