National Coming Out Day

Sunday October 10, 2004
October 11th is National Coming Out Day!

Even though there is a designated day to celebrate, coming out should happen in stages. The first is accepting that you are gay or bisexual. The Kinsey Scale is a helpful guide in determining your level of homosexuality. Are you only attracted to men? Are you attracted to both men and women? Or, are you simply curious about the same sex?

The next stage is sharing your sexuality with friends, family and co-workers. This doesn't have to happen in a particular order and there is no time limit to figuring out your sexual preferences. Coming out is based on your own comfort level and should happen when you are ready. PFLAG is a very helpful resource when coming out to your loved ones.
