California Senate Says Yes To Gay Marriage
Friday September 2, 2005
The California Senate quickly approved Bill 849 legalizing gay marriage in California. Sen. Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) praised the bill in an interview with the Associated Press (AP), "Gay and lesbian people fall in love. We settle down. We commit our lives to one another. We raise our children. We protect them. We try to be good citizens." Overcoming a Senate defeat by only 4 votes back in June, the new approved bill is now set for debate in the California Assembly.
