South Africa 5th Country to Legalize Gay Marriage

Citing "The current definition of marriage is considered to be inconsistent with the constitution," South Africa's high court ruled in favor of same-sex unions, making the post-apartheid country the fifth nation in the world to legalize gay marriage. The South African Parliament has 12 months to change the marriage laws. Section 9 of South Africa's constitution prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Same-sex adoption has been legal in South Africa since 2002.
