Bush Spying Extends to Gays

The domestic spying scandal surrounding President Bush may be far more widespread than first thought. Bush's secret authorization of a domestic spying program, according to MSNBC and the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, includes a secret Pentagon database that monitors "suspicious activity" from anti-war and advocate groups considered "threats." Among the monitored activities was a gay kiss-in at the University of California - Santa Cruz, protesting the ban on gays in the military. The recent monitoring of gay rights groups is no new activity for the Federal Government. The FBI began monitoring gay groups in 1961. (read more)
President Bush claims the authorizations are within his power and necessary to protect the American people from a post 9/11 threat. However, a protest to include gays in the military is hardly a threat against public security.
