I am a MTF (Male to Female) transexual and what I find interesting is the sheer lack of understanding or desire to understand that a transvestite and transexual are very different. While we are all under the transgender umbrella and I celebrate the freedoms of all I just wish that I, as a transexual would not be pigeon holed into the transvestite arena just as they would not want people to assume that they are transexual. It is time to educate all on every aspect of humanity and not focus on just narrow ideas and conceptions.

We are a group of professional social work students who have been asked by our institution to create a blog on transgender inmates. We will be especially interested in exploring the policies and procedures which are responsible for the creation of a repressive atmosphere for the transgender population. As such, we will be viewing this issue from within an anti-oppressive framework. Hun I do not think that trying to give you a label is the correct thing to do ! Some one could only assume what that could mean ! If you are deeply concerned and it is bothering you and want to know exactly who ,or what you are , you are going to need to see a proffessional ! It would be better for you to find out now,than living a life society expects you to live !

I am a mother of a male who wants to be female. At this moment he is taking the hormone treatments. I worry about how people will accept him socially. But I have accepted the fact that this is what he wants. My husband loves him but doesn’t understand why he chooses this path. My concerns are for our son, how society will look at him.I worry how he will be looked at both professionally and in future endevers. I love him unconditionally. However, I must morn the loss of having a son and embrace having a daughter. Do most parents feel this way when they hear the news of their children’s transition? I don’t know but this is the way I feel.
How do i get started on this?
