2006-2007 Gay TV

Monday August 21, 2006
Gay television is back for Fall 2006, but unfortunately with only a fraction of the gay and lesbian lead and supporting characters of last season. According to GLAAD, nine (or 1.3%) of the 679 series regular lead or supporting characters are gay or lesbian in 2006-2007. GLAAD President Neil G. Giuliano expresses his disappointment, "In the last year, we've seen a tremendous amount of visibility on the big screen, reaching a large audience anxious to see our stories." Giuliano continues, "The networks, though, are not tapping into this audience and are failing to represent the reality and diversity of their viewers and the world around them." Have gay-theme shows run their course or are they no longer ratings hype? Flip through the 2006-2007 gay and lesbian TV listings.
