JonBenet Ramsey Suspect Considered Sex Reassignment

Tuesday August 22, 2006
Although he did not disclose details, Dr. Thep Vechwijit at the Pratunam Polyclinic- which specializes in gender reassignment surgery- said JonBenet Ramsey suspect John Mark Karr was one of his patients. An anonymous staff member at the world-renowned clinic said Karr consulted a doctor about surgery.

The Associated Press report also claims the Thai people, unlike the Americans, had little knowledge of Karr, who's been extradited to the U.S., or the 1996 JonBenet case before his arrest. It's obvious these new details about Karr's past are further attempts to explain the unorthodox behavior of a confessed child killer, but do allegations of attempted gender reassignment perpetuate the misguided perception that glbt people and child molestation go hand in hand? Is the public looking for a reason why? And, if that silver bullet is never found will we deduce one of our own? Perhaps he is the killer or simply a troubled man vying for attention as some experts speculate. Soon, we'll know the real story and the real reasons why- from Karr himself or the evidence against him. Until then, let's hope the media stays focused.
