Should Gays Carry Guns?
Thursday September 28, 2006
Violence is never the answer, but try saying that to the many glbt people gay-bashed each year. I've never been violently attacked, but I have been verbally assaulted several times- once at a concert as onlookers watched several guys twice my size surround me and yell obscenities. I don't like guns or violence, but at that moment I knew I was unable to defend myself. Would a gun or other weapon have made my small 5'6" frame less of a target? The folks at Pink Pistols believe it's more likely. Once a month the group meets at firing ranges to practice shooting and teach safe and legal use of firearms. According to the Pink Pistols, "The more people know that members of our community may be armed, the less likely they will be to single us out for attack."

What kind of question is THIS???
That seems rather silly to single US out as a group that seems on the verge of snapping at any moment. I take offense to the question in general. I’ll carry a gun like any heterosexual would as well.
I believe this is slippery slope (more below), and I also agree with David - if I feel threatened, why is my carrying a gun any different than anyone else?
I own guns - all inherited, none purchased - and at best, I’m ambivalent about them. As pieces of fine machinery, they can be admired. And I enjoy shooting at paper targets, as a hobby and test of skill.
But it’s hard for me to imagine actually carrying one as a form of protection. It seems to me that it’s a dangerous thing to do: the presence of a firearm hugely changes the dynamic of any situation.
But then, I’m 6′2″, and 225 lbs. Maybe if I were less physically “gifted” (;)), I’d feel differently about this.
Absolutely. I recommend all gays to join their local Pink Pistols chapter; or if they’re in a smaller community, form their own self-defense group, or group that patrols the local gay establishments. Nothing’s more amusing than the look on a would-be basher who comes running towards you, only to be staring down the barrel of gun - the hunter becomes the prey, no?
I carry a glock 26 subcompact.. I have a concealed weapon permit also.. I feel alot safer this way!
Given that our country allows hate groups to organize and purchase hate (Prop H8), I’ve gone from being “anti-gun” to “pro-gun”. When government ITSELF fails miserably to offer EQUAL PROTECTION under the law, ignores hate crimes for what they are, and ALLOWS a majority’s tyranny…..more reason for gun ownership. [equality tax revolt]
As the Uncle of a Gay young man I think EVERYONE at the very least has the right to own and carry a firearm for self protection. My nephew HAS been attacked for being gay. Soon afterwords I took him to the local shooting range and taught him how to shoot and safely handle a pistol. He carries now. He’s safer as a result. We as a society are safer as a result.
I disagree with violence. I think that any problem can be solved in a pacific wat. But sadly, not everybody out there thinks the same, specially when it is related to us. Violence begins were reason ends.
I will get a gun.
