Tax Tips for Gays and Lesbians

In past years, I've given the little government detail called tax paying a back seat until my nose was pressed right up against the April deadline. In 2007, I'm making promise of a new me in a new year with a new you, so join me as I prepare my taxes (i.e. call my accountant) earlier this year. Kathy, our Lesbian Life Guide, keeps us on top of our fiscal toes (or woes) with a few tax tips for gays and lesbians. Belge cautions,
"The IRS warns that attempts by gay and lesbian couples to file a joint return may result in fines or other penalties."
Belge goes on to talk about tax inequality,
"A study by the Human Rights Campaign and Urban Institute in 2004 shows that gays and lesbians pay higher taxes and get fewer benefits than straight couples."
