A tribute to the gays and lesbians that were killed under the Nazi's has been erected in the German capital of Berlin. The monument, designed by Michael Elmgreen of Denmark and Ingar Dragset of Norway, is near the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe on the edge of Tiergarten park. A looped video inside a $935,000 stone structure (pictured to the left) alternates clips of two men kissing and two women kissing every two years.
"This memorial is important from two points of view—to commemorate the victims, but also to make clear that even today, after we have achieved so much in terms of equal treatment, discrimination still exists daily," Berlin's openly gay mayor Klaus Wowereit said at the inauguration of the memorial on May 27th.
