Spray On Condoms?

Condoms come in different flavors, colors and textures, but when it comes down to size, most brands (with the exception of the larger packages like Trojan Magnums and Lifestyle XL's) take a one-size-fits-all approach. Condom size not only contributes to comfort, but wearing the wrong one can reduce their effectiveness. Wearing a size too small can contribute to discomfort and tears. If you choose a size that's too big, it could slip off during sex. And although there are larger sized condoms, manufacturers have had little success selling smaller size condoms. After all, what guy wants to out his size at the checkout counter?

Perfect condom comfort comes with a perfect condom fit. Could a spray on condom be the answer? German sexual-health educator and inventor Jan Vinzenz Krause has come up with condom contraption that sprays liquid latex from all directions, creating a custom fit. The latex itself is just as effective for protection as a standard wrapper rubber, but I wonder about the danger should you or the sprayer miss a spot.

Still, Krause's biggest rib is developing a latex that dries in less than the current two to three minutes it takes the liquid latex to dry. "For people to buy it," Krause says, "it needs to be ready in five to 10 seconds." I agree. It's awkward enough breaking the mood to rip open the seemingly titanium-sealed wrappers. Imagine pulling out a sprayer and then setting a timer as you and your partner try and avoid the airborne residue. Regardless, Krause should be commended for getting "MacGyver," as he told Time, and developing a condom that guys can feel comfortable buying and wearing.

By the way, for those trigger happy prophylactic fans, Krause's penis sprayer isn't available yet. He is, however, getting ready to market a brand of condoms that come in six different sizes— a brilliant move seeming every penis isn't built the same. Krause's all inclusive condoms should reach the U.S. by 2010. Until then, use the ones in the wrapper to wrap it up.
