Sarah Palin on Gay Issues

Friday August 29, 2008
I'm not shocked that John McCain chose a conservative running mate, but I am surprised that he tapped inexperienced Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Not much is known about Governor Palin's stance on individual gay rights issues like don't ask, don't tell and same-sex adoption yet, but what we do know that she strongly opposes same-sex marriage. Her support of teaching creationism in schools and her ties to conservative anti-gay groups like Family Research Council make it unlikely that she will support any other pro-gay legislation.

Palin has stated that she "has gay friends" and conservative media outlets are already using her taunt as an litmus test of fair policy-making. That political smokescreen may work in some closed circles, but I doubt she is very close to her "gay friends," since she has actively denied them equal rights. Her acrid "gay friend" remark is no different than that of the one racist we all know that claims she isn't racist because she has black friends.

Regardless, McCain's strategy has always been to wow ultra-conservatives, who are celebrating his choice, and not appease "the liberals." We know that together, McCain and Palin will not support pro-gay legislation, but are we willing to take a chance on any possible future attempts to strip us of the rights we already have?

At this point–actually, well before it–how can any lgbt even entertain the thought of backing a Republican? I really, really want to know what the hell Log Cabin Republicans are thinking.

A lifetime member of the NRA, a pro-lifer, a fiscal conservative and a strong proponent of family values, Palin is a conservative on every major social and political issue. She is in favor of the death penalty, and although she opposes gay marriage, she has no problem with the lifestyle and is tough on gay-lesbian descrimination. She vetoed a plan that would have prevented the extension of benefits to partners of gay state employees.

Palin on vetoed the bill barring discrimination against LGBT state employees because she felt it violated the existing constitution, not because she is pro-gay or pro-equality. Also, she has stated that she would support a ballot measure that would bar LGBT employee partner benefits. The people that say she is pro-gay never read that small print.

You are SO STUPID.

Sara has 10 Time More Experience than B.Hussein and O’Biden combined.
Neither B.Hussein nor O’Biden have Even been responsible for a Multi-Billion $$ Budget.

Sara Has.
Neither have Been a Mayor nor a Governor.

Sara Has, as has Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton had more experience than Sara does when he became president.

Sara has INFINITELY MORE Experience running for VP than Either B.Hussein or O’Biden.

Sara is NOT Anti-Gay. She is Anti-Gay marriage being forced upon States by the Federal Government, the Courts or anyone else.

If she were anti-gay, she Would Not Have VETOED the Bill in Alaska that the Republicans AND the Democrats wanted passed to Take Away Gays-governmental Partner Benefits.

B.Hussein is AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE

O’BIDEN IS AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE.

Are you going to call them “Anti-Gay” as well.

Get your Facts Correct before you make IGNORANT Statements.

Actually, Obama is FOR same-sex unions. He is a Christian, and, therefore, believes that “Marriage”, as in the religious term, is between a man and a woman.

His real stance is that the definition of “marriage” should be a religious battle, and NOT a political battle, but that all people, regardless of sexual orientation, should have equal rights in union.

“Giving them a set of basic rights would allow them to experience their relationship and live their lives in a way that doesn’t cause discrimination,” Obama said. “I think it is the right balance to strike in this society.”

Palin not only has ties to anti LGBT groups, she has actively fought to deny gays rights.

“She told the Daily News that she would support a ballot question that would deny benefits to the domestic partners of public employees, which were ordered by an October 2005 decision of the Alaska Supreme Court, because, she said “honoring the family structure is that important.” http://dwb.adn.com/news/politics/elections/governor06/story/8049298p-7942233c.html”

Do a little research before you not only speak ignorantly, but lash out at those with an opposing opinion. This country is split in half by people exactly like you. It’s time to put down the guns and pick up the books. Seriously.

Pray tell! How do you think that 250 gay delegates at the Convention is somehow meritorious?

My math tells me that 50 states divided into 250 delegates means an average of 5 gay people from each state might have attended the convention.

That’s not any referent for a minority. It’s just tokenism. Remmeber tokenism. We used to refer that to integrting blacks into white classrooms. Haven’t we come a lot further than that in integrating blacks into the mainsteam of American life.

Women have long been mainstreamed into American life. Perhaps it wasn’t always so in public life. But look how an unqualified woman is now running for VP. At least MCCain should have tried Hilary first. That would have been progress!!! Not the Ice Queen from Alaska who smiles and waves with alacrity!!

Please 5 gays per state on average involved in critical decision making. Even the Dems have a heck of a way to go.

What report can the Republicans give? Of course, we know Republicans are great for keeping their cards covered and secretive as long as possible.

Where is straight and gay public opinion on this issues?

(8) doug says:

Gay or straight the issues around marriage have nothing, NOTHING to do with the church. If you would lke to get married than all you need is a form and a person that is legally obliged to marry you. That is it unless they still make people take a blood test. Separation from Chruch and State. The Church has NOTHING to do with making a married couple a couple. They just have to love eachother and WANT to spend all the the rest of their days together. No harm in that. Jesus, God , Alla ect have no say in who can and who can not get married. I wish all you married and soon to be married couples good fortune. Maybe someone will take some inititive to go and tell Palin that she is a fraud and and a racist for trying to make gay friendly people revert from her own church pulpet. I get the willies evertime I see that fake smile that says I am going to rip your head off as soon as I get a chance without the media seeing me. Pure evil incornate. I have seen enough white surpreimest movements that I can pick them out mile a way and she just took off her white hood for a while. Please whatch her closely because she is NOT the woman ( so soft and gentel ) that she projects to be.

If you want to get more insight on how Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin might view gay Americans, just look at the bulletin of her church.

According to KTVA 11 In Alaska, “Governor Palin’s home church is promoting a conference that aims to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

guess who was a governor? bush. clearly that helped him a whole lot.

(12) Lynn says:

We also know that her church, Wasilla Assembly of God, has joined efforts to ‘pray away the gay.’ Palin has never said anything to distance herself from or to condemn the church’s attitude that homosexuality is a sin that must be driven out like a demon. (Think of Obama condemning Rev. Wright as a model for this.) Nor has she given the real press the chance to ask real questions about her own extreme views or those if her church. Meanwhile, attitudes like that get gay people hurt or killed. (Think Matthew Shepard.) If her church ‘prayed away the Jew’ or ‘prayed away the Black’ would her extreme views get hammered upon?
