Results of Propositions 8, 102, and 2
Wednesday November 5, 2008
Looking back at the issues, the Obama-Biden ticket was more gay-affirmative than the McCain-Palin run, making Barack Obama's win a move in the right direction for gays and lesbians. However, there were three propositions and one act on the ballot that moved to strip same-sex couples of rights. We weren't as successful with their outcome:California Proposition 8: Passed
Proposition 8, which establishes marriage as a union between a man and a woman in California, passed by a vote of 52.5% approved and 47.5% opposed. More on the history of Proposition 8.

Arizona Proposition 102: Passed
Prop. 102 passed with 56% of the vote, effectively defining marriage as between one man and one woman in the Arizona Constitution. Read more about Arizona Proposition 102.
Florida Proposition 2: Passed
Florida voters passed a ban on same-sex marriage in the state. Get the history of Florida Proposition 2.
Arkansas Act One: Passed
Fifty-seven percent of Arkansas voters supported Act One, which prohibits unmarried sexual partners (both opposite sex and same sex) from adopting children or from serving as foster parents. Check out same-sex adoption laws in other states.

You are too quick to state Prop 8 has passed. Please read the following:

Statement by No on Prop 8 Campaign on Election Status
Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied.
Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted.
Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from.
It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning.
As of this point, the election is too close to call.
Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome.

Still hoping against hope for my gay friends in California… until the last second of uncertainty.
So Prop 8 passed too! My American friends are so sad, but still determined to fight!
I wish I could do something to help them, but I don’t even live on the same continent. All I can do is offer my respect and moral support to everybody who needs them.
Another step back…..just as the rest of America takes a giant step forward. A time of great jubilation and sadness. Even in the 21st Century we are still having to fight for our natural born right to be who we are. I guess they’ll look back in another 40 years and wonder why so many people opposed gay marriage….I hope.
This is just a little upsetting! I don’t think that people really take time out to really think about thing’s that are affecting our world as to what life syle we choose to live. What is the crime rate in Cali? Are fire arms, and knives going to be banned? Honestly, is it really hurting anyone that two people from the same sex are together? What about the government? How much is this world in bebt? We can’t go after the gov. so our taxes will drop lower or the economy get better now can we! So the solution is make life harder on people who are happy as to taking care of something that’s important?! Just remember we all are human’s we should be able to choose who we want to be with! At that when you love someone you want to be able to Marry Them!!!! It shouldn’t matter what thier sex is. C’mon guy’s let’s be real!!
So Californians passed a proposition giving new rights to animals regarding minimum space requirements, while taking away rights that the state Supreme Court had already given to gay, lesbian and transgendered people! What a strange world we live in.
i think gay couples should be able to marry. it just wrong to not let them be with the person they love. it would make them so happy to feel just like everyone else.
