"I have recently begun my coming out process and have found it to be a real reality check," Gay Life reader Chris shares. "On day one I felt everything change, including my eyes. What do I have to look forward to in my coming out process? What thoughts do you have for a newly gay guy like myself?"

In my experience, there is a vast change from pre-coming out to post-. It’s nothing you notice right away, but rather something that’s noticed months later in hindsight. It’s a stressful process, and it’s hard to see the changes in yourself until the dust settles.

After coming out to the people whom I love, I have found myself to be a happier, more confident, and more outgoing person. I can’t emphasize the happier part enough. Once you’re honest with yourself and honest with others about who you are–even the ones that don’t understand right away or never will–you find yourself a lot more O.K. a lot more often.

Just my two cents.

All the best,
JD
