Legal Basics For LGBT Elders
Monday July 13, 2009
Rita Mae Brown believed that the true function of age is memory. "I'm recording as fast as I can," she said.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) estimates that there are between 3.5 and 4 million LGBT persons age 65 and older recording their histories in the U.S. and many of these individuals "confront institutions and public policies that do not recognize their needs or acknowledge their families."
In response, NCLR has issued a legal guide to for LGBT seniors. The paper, Planning with Purpose: Legal Basics for LGBT Elders, provides free legal education and resources, hotlines, attorney assistance to help older/mature individuals protect their families, assets and futures.
