At 12am, Vermont became the forth state in America to legally recognize same-sex marriage. The state's gay marriage legislation took effect today, granting same-sex couples the complete legal rights and benefits of marriage.
Back in August, the state legislature overrode Gov. Jim Douglas’s veto of a bill allowing same-sex couples to marry, making Vermont the first state to allow gay marriage through legislative action.
To commemorate the new law, Vermont-based Ben & Jerry's temporarily renamed its popular Chubby Hubby ice cream to Hubby Hubby.
The State of New Hampshire will start recognizing same-sex marriage on January 1, 2010.
