From Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) and Yes Man(2008) to last year's animated release of A Christmas Carol, no one does impersonation better than Jim Carey. This month, the showcase comedian will wear the skin of a gay man, prison escapee and real life impostor Steven Jay Russell in I Love You Philip Morris.
While locked up, 52-year-old Russell fell in love with his cell mate Phillip Morris (played by Ewan McGregor in the film). After Morris was released, Russell escaped four times to be reunited with him.
In all, Russell has made 14 prison breaks and used 14 known aliases, making him one of the most infamous impostors in history. Russell once impersonated a judge and ordered his own bond decreased from $900,000 to $45,000.
Both Carey and McGregor expand their repertoire in a comedic account of Russell's tales. I Love You Philip Morris was released at Sundance in 2009, grossing over $7 million worldwide. A limited U.S. release is scheduled for April 2010.
