Republican says "f—- it," supports New York gay marriage

By , About.com GuideJune 15, 2011

Follow me on:

Gay marriage in New York is just one vote away from reality after a GOPer jumped ship and pledged his support for same-sex unions.

Yesterday, Sen. Roy McDonald (R-Saratoga) slid to the left and publicly announced his support for marriage equality in New York. His point makes 31 votes in the State Senate, just one shy of a sure win.

Gov. Cuomo introduced same-sex marriage legislation on Tuesday, giving hope to gay activists. Cuomo promised not to move forward until he was positive of a win. With his advance and growing support by GOPers like Sens. Greg Ball (Putnam), Andrew Lanza (S.I.), Stephen Saland (Poughkeepsie) and Mark Grisanti (Buffalo), gay marriage is surely on the horizon.

Why the switch?
F--- it, 61-year-old McDonald told reporters. "You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing."

He went on: "You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, f--- it, I don't care what you think. I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."

Well, Sen. McDonald, I'm tired of bipartisan politics, too. Right is right and equal is equal. And kudos to you for telling anyone who disagrees to stick it in their respective offices.

Congrats..Sen. McDonald. If only more representatives had your moral compass, the world would be a better place.

Congrats Sen. McDonald, it seems that I will be moving to NYC sooner than I thought.
