Bullying is more than a schoolyard joke; it happens in many forms: name-calling, pushes and shoves, or in the case of former Rutgers University student Dharun Ravi, spying.
I hesitate to use the words "is becoming" when referring to the pervasiveness of bullying, because bullying has always been present and as Professor Ann Phoenix of the University of London points out: is more pervasive than we can imagine.
Prof. Phoenix goes as far as saying that there is no increase in bullying. It's so pervasive, she notes, that there's no where for bullying to increase to. As a gay man, I was encouraged by the idea that someone finally understood that bullying is a new fad or merely the hottest news topic.
