Chicago alderman Proco "Joe" Moreno wants to block Chick-fil-A's plans to open a restaurant in the Northwest Side ward of the city.
Chicago Tribune says Moreno doesn't want a company that discriminates against a segment of his population within ward lines.
"If you are discriminating against a segment of the community, I don't want you in the 1st Ward," Moreno told the Tribune.
Moreno's comments come after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy clarified his company's position on gay rights.
Violation of free speech? Moreno thinks not: "You have the right to say what you want to say, but zoning is not a right."

I’m sorry but this is just so much grandstanding. If Moreno’s really serious about standing up for gay rights, the man can do a little research and find a gay friendly franchise that he could invite to open up in his area.
Better yet, he could call upon his constituency to dig into their pockets and help support gay friendly organizations like the Howard Brown AIDS clinic and the local AIDS food pantry. When it comes to battling bigoted companies like Chic-Fil-A, money talks, and all the rest is just recyclable bovine material, walking.
