Gay Marriage In Vietnam?

By July 30, 2012

Follow me on:

Could Vietnam be the first country in Asia to legalize gay marriage?

The Justice Ministry is considering allowing gay marriage as part of its overhaul of marriage rights.

The potential success of the measure is unknown, as it will have to be debated in front of the National Assembly. However, gay rights activists are claiming victory that the Communist government is even considering the law.

Vietnam isn't known for its generosity to human rights. Washington Times says a shift in perception inside of the one-party government could be the media's increased coverage of gay issues from within the country.
