If the court decides to review the case, it could be decided as early as next summer, according to LA Times.
In 2008 California voters banned gay marriage under a ballot measure called Prop 8. Since, a series of legal battles have led to the measured being ruled unconstitutional by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Gay marriage was also spread into national debates over same sex unions.
If the Supreme Court decides not to review the case, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision will hold and gay and lesbian Californians will be allowed to marry.
