How does The Amazing Race work?
This popular reality series starts with 12 couples or teams ranging from friends and co-workers to married couples. The teams begin at an equal starting point and must race to 12 checkpoints, then one final leg home. At each checkpoint they must search for a clue which when deciphered revels the next destination. The teams have very little money or information, so strategic planning and communication are essential. The first team to arrive at each checkpoint is rewarded with a head start of a few seconds to minutes depending on the lag of the other teams. The last team to arrive at each checkpoint gets eliminated. As the race progresses, viewers often witness arguments and frustrations between team members, which sometimes cost them a time bonus or ultimately a victory. Some teams work very well together and celebrate each small achievement. The race is a true test of cohesiveness and understanding of your teammate.
The Amazing Race 4 began in Los Angeles, CA traveling through North America, Europe and Asia ending back at Phoenix, AZ in the States.
Couple Reichen and Chip took the lead heading into Hawaii when engaged couple Kelly & Jon missed their connecting flight in Tokyo and best friends David & Jeff became stranded in Sydney.
