OraQuick Rapid HIV Test
HIV Test Results in 20 Minutes

By Ramon Johnson, About.com

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of an HIV test that produces results in only 20 minutes and only requires a drop of blood.

The OraQuick rapid HIV test, manufactured by OraSure Technologies will be available in hospitals and laboratories. This new rapid test will also be available in physician's offices, some community organizations and outreach program creating wider access to HIV test results.

Standard HIV test can take two or more weeks to produce results. Nonetheless, it is suggested that the OraQuick rapid HIV test be followed up by a standard HIV test. Proper use and pre and post counseling is also recommended. You should visit your local hospital, clinic or community center for more information.
