Year in Review: Gay News That Shook 2012

After years of legal battles and political struggle, the issue of gay marriage is about to hit Prime Time. What began as a voter initiative to prevent gay and lesbian couples in California from marrying has run through the federal court system and is now up for consideration by the Supreme Court. Prop 8, also known as Hollingsworth v. Perry (formerly Perry v. Brown) will be heard alongside a challenge to New York's gay marriage law this spring. The outcome will directly challenge the constitutionality of DOMA and a win could mean legal gay marriage nationwide.
