Matt Bomer may be the star of the American television show White Collar, but in August of 2012 he found himself in the middle of a drama he didn't ask for.

Bomer has gathered a huge fan base as the lead on White Collar. Good looks aside, the fact that he's openly gay adds to his appeal. But, is it possible Bomer is too gay?

American Pshycho author Bret Easton Ellis started a look-at-me Twitter campaign speculating about what a great screenwriter he would be for the screen version of 50 Shades of Grey.

A series of tweets boasted of what a foolish decision it would be not to pick him. He also began speculating about who should be cast to play the lead "Christian Grey." On his short list, Matt Bomer.

However, Bomer's consideration by Ellis was short-lived. According to Ellis, Bomer is too gay to play the womanizing Christian Grey.

Among his Ellis's tweets: "Fifty Shades of Grey: the most popular book on the planet having Matt Bomer--a gay actor--play Christian Grey is absolutely ludicrous. Why?"

The insults go on. Blog Zap2It has more.

Unfortunately, Ellis later announced that he was not being considered for the adaptation.

So, back to B. Boomer has three kids with his partner publicist Simon Halls. He came out about them in February.

In October, the pair rides to the GLSEN Respect Awards in Los Angeles where they will receive an "Inspiration Award."
