Author, poet, and activist Paul Monette (October 16, 1945 – February 10, 1995) is remembered for his groundbreaking essays about gay relationships. Mr. Monette, born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, taught writing and literature at Milton Academy before moving to West Hollywood in 1978 with his partner, lawyer Roger Horwitz. Mr. Monette's memoir Becoming A Man won the 1992 National Book Award in the nonfiction category.
Paul Monette died of AIDS-related illness and is survived by his father, Paul Monette Sr., and his brother, Robert Monette, a trustee of the Monette Horwitz Trust, which honors individuals and organizations for their significant contributions toward eradicating homophobia.
