Who is Emil Wilbekin?:

Emil Wilbekin is the former editor-in-chief of Quincey Jones's Vibe Magazine, the popular urban music and culture publication and current vice president of brand development for designer label Marc Ecko.

About Emil Wilbekin:

Emil Wilbekin was born in 1968 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Emil is a graduate of Hampton University and Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.

Emil Wilbekin at Vibe Magazine:

Emil joined Vibe Magazine in 1992 with an extensive resume, that included editing jobs at People Magazine, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, and Metropolitan Home. Wilbekin has contributed to several publications including The New York Times. in 1999, he was chosen as Vibe's editor-in-chief. Under his leadership, Vibe won the coveted 2002 National Magazine Award.

Emil Wilbekin at Marc Ecko:

Emil Wilbekin is currently the vice president of brand development for fashion designer Marc Ecko’s enterprises. Wilbekin also serves as an editorial board member at Complex, a Marc Ecko-owned magazine.

Emil Wilbekin the Philanthropist:

Emil Wilbekin has served on the boards of the American Society of Magazine Editors, Brotherhood SisterSol, Design Industries Fighting AIDS, and 24 Hours for Life. He is also a member of the Black AIDS Institute.

Emil Wilbekin's Influence:

Out magazine named Emil Wilbekin as one of 100 most influential gay people in America in 2002.
