About George Michael:

Born June 25, 1963 in North London. George Michael's birth name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou.

George Michael in Wham!:

George Michael met Andrew Ridgeley at a comprehensive school near North London. In 1981, they formed a band called The Executive. They later broke from the band to form the famous duo, Wham!. Wham! is best known for their first top ten hit single, "Young Guns (Go For It!)."

George Michael as Solo Artist:

In 1984, while still a member of Wham!, George Michael released his first solo single, "Careless Whisper." He wrote the song when he was only 17. After the release of his second hit solo single, "A Different Corner," Michael and Ridgeley agreed to split.

George Michael solo success continued to flourish when, in 1987, he became the first white male vocalist to duet with the legendary Aretha Franklin. Their classic, "I Knew You Were Waiting" set the stage for Michael's solo album, "Faith" (Sony).

George Michael's Albums:

Several other albums followed "Faith": "Listen Without Prejudice: Vol. 1," "Older" (Virgin), "You Have Been Loved", "Ladies and Gentlemen- The Best of George Michael" (Epic), "Shoot The Dog" and "Patience."

George Michael's Achievements:

In addition to six No. 1 singles, George Michael's album "Faith" received a Grammy for Best Album of 1988, two Ivor Novello Awards for "Songwriter of the Year" and "International Hit of the Year." Michael was also crowned "Favorite Male Vocalist" (pop/rock), "Favorite Male Artist" (soul/R'n'B) and "Favorite Album" at the American Music Awards.

Many other awards followed including, "MTV International Viewers Choice Award" (1996) and MTV Europe Awards "Best British Male" (1996).

George Michael as Philanthropist:

In 1991, George Michael joined with the vocal forces of Elton John to sing the duet, "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me" to benefit the London Lighthouse AIDS hospice and the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity. George also re-released "Too Funky" as a single on the "Red Hot and Dance" AIDS charity album. In addition to numerous other HIV/AIDS charities, George Michael released music on his web site GeorgeMichael.com to benefit charitable causes.

George Michael in Print/ on Film:

George Michael co-wrote his biography "Bare" with Tony Parsons. The documentary George Michael: A Different Story was released in 2005 to give fans insight into Michael's life.
