World Pride is an international event organized by Interpride, an association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Pride coordinators. The purpose of the event is to network and encourage diverse communities to hold and attend pride events.
Since 1982, Interpride has held annual conferences with delegates from over 73 Pride organization from 18 countries. World Pride event host cities are selected by a delegation vote.
The first World Pride was held in Rome in July 2000 and the second scheduled in Jerusalem in 2006, although it was cancelled to violent protest.
