GLBT History Month honors gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender heritage with annual celebrations in October (U.S.) and February (U.K.).
GLBT History Month-first organized in the States in 1995 by GLSEN and a group of organizers and educators-was modeled after the Black and Women's History Month celebrations. October was chosen to coincide with school sessions and National Coming Out Day.
And in February of 2005, Sue Sanders initiated GLBT History Month in the U.K. as a response to the repeal of Britain's Section 28 anti-gay legislation.
