So, he wore a checkered shirt and polka dot pants to your family's bar-b-que? Your man's bad style isn't his fault. He probably doesn't know any better. Save your boyfriend from fashion folly by helping him upgrade his appearance. Try this:

1. Start Early, Go Slow
   Change takes time. Your guy has probably had stale style for as long as he could button his fly. It'll take time for him to adopt a more fashionable sense. It'll also take considerable effort from you to get him there. That's why you should start as soon as possible.


2. Do, Don't Speak
   Unless he asks you explicitly to help him with his threads, take the silent, yet strategic, approach. I'll show you how in a few moments, but first understand that it's all in the packaging. If you blatantly come out and tell him how pitiful his style is, you might hurt his feelings or put him on the defensive.

   Make the first move and buy him a stylish item. If he's not a shopper, bring him home a gift. Again, use the power of encouragement to show him how good he looks. I warn you: He will resist at first. Keep trying. With persistence you can break down the barriers.
   
   *When grooming is your man's issue, browse through magazines for the look you know he'll turn heads with. Let him know how gorgeous he'll look with that hair style or shave. Book a salon appointment for him and go together.


5. Curb the Jealousy
   There are side effects to every remedy. Keep in mind that new found attention from strangers will come along with your man's hot new look. More than likely, he's gone through the great lengths of style adjustment to please you. There's no need to worry about onlookers as long as you reward him for switching his style.


6. Reward Him
   You assured him that his new look will drive you crazy. He probably interpreted that as: "He said this shirt turns him on. So, if I wear it, he'll show me just how much later." Well, he wore it. Now it's your turn.


7. Tread Lightly, Be Flexible
   What's good for the style clueless is good for the style conscious. Keep in mind that he may not like your style either and may use similar techniques to get you to dress how he fancies. Stay open to the possibilities. If that tight V that you hate really gets him going, you may want to reconsider wearing it.
