The Scene
Adjust your headphones, turn up the bass, close your eyes and imagine for one second. The warehouse-size room is massive, the gay men shirtless and the go-go dancers flawless. The sweat is so thick it drips from the new state-of-the-art Phazon sound system. It's not your usual circuit party, but a regular Saturday night at New York City's Roxy nightclub with DJ Peter Rauhofer, who's not only commanded the tables but synchronized the heartbeats of every gay boy in the room.
The Music
Not planning on visiting New York City anytime soon? No worries, Peter Rauhofer latest Live@Roxy vol. 3 takes you on a virtual tour. This two disc set is deep, dirty and downright sinful. Peter's Reconstruction mix of Marco V's C\Del*.mp3 and Sugar Shake's Meu Coracao hit the lower registers so hard one can only wonder if Rauhofer is vying for a permanent spot at the infamous Black Party. That said, young bucks beware: Live@Roxy vol.3 is not your run of the mill Sunday tea time fundisk, this is the real deal. No wonder gay men across the globe are obsessed with dance music. What else can take you on a trip without you ever having to go anywhere.
Nonetheless, Peter does give you a breather by showcasing his mixes of Madonna's Nobody Knows Me and Nothing Fails but gets back on track with a strong ending from none other than house favorite Murk.
Overall, Live@Roxy vol.3 pushes the limits of mega club sound systems, with mid ranges and lows that make volumes 1 and 2 seem like birthday party warmups. Was the state-of-the-art Phazon sound system built for this compilation or did Peter Rauhofer engineer his set to prove that club owners got their money's worth? Let your sweat be the judge.
