There's a new face to dating at gay romance site oneGoodLove.
The team at OGL has launched a new version of their online matchmaker. oneGoodLove.com is a formula-based dating site that matches singles based on a short 5-minute personality test. The site then connects hopefuls with compatible matches based on their answers and other user statistics.
The idea of algorithm-based compatibility matching isn't new. I'm usually skeptical of these types of systems. Can an algorithm really tell me what's best for me?
OGL seems to have addressed this concern for daters like me. While the formula still exists, the site now allows users to search for their own matches. The combination of technologies is attractive and promising.
More improved features includes a clean, modern interface. At first glance, the site seemed sterile, but after a few minutes of interaction an openness and transparency emerges. I'm not sure if this was the intention, but the design appeals to daters eager to declutter the online dating process (and the guys that use it).
Uploading a photo and filling out profile info is standard, but OGL has added an intelligent instant match system similar to leading rival OKCupid. Not much is known about how OKCupid determines user Quickmatches, but oneGoodLove has stated that their "Instant Match" playlist of men gets smarter as you rate guys.
OGL has also loosened their user paywall. The service is still based on subscriptions that range from free profile creation to limited access (starting at $6.40/month), all the way up to a grand VIP access (starting at $35.95/month). Unlike other subscription-based sites, however, OGL allows VIP members to communicate with everyone (regardless of subscription status).
As an added bonus, OGL gives users the option to donate 5% of their subscriptions to a number of national and local nonprofit LGBT organizations.
OGL has also loosened their pic policy, allowing members to express themselves with or without shirts.
Finally for the shy, OGL has created "Insights" that allow members to send "guided communication questions" to help them start conversations.
With more intelligent features, it's obvious that the team at OGL has given meticulous thought to this redesign. This is important as the number of online dating options grow and gay singles become more discriminating about the communities they join.
Overall, OGL's redesign expands on the poise of the original, with increased flexibility and intelligence.
