Hepatitis A and Gay Sex

Definition:
Hepatitis A is caused by the hepatitis A virus or HAV. Hepatitis A is a liver disease. Once a person contracts Hepatitis A they cannot get it again.

Symptoms of Hepatitis A:
  • jaundice
  • fatigue
  • abdominal pain
  • loss of appetite
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • fever
How is it transmitted?
HAV can be transmitted through the stool of someone infected with HAV. You can contract HAV by rimming a person with the virus.

Can it be prevented or treated?
You can protect yourself from Hepatitis A by getting a HAV vaccination prior to coming in contact with the virus. Also, use a dental dam, saran wrap or a condom while rimming.
