Buy a Condom

By Ramon Johnson, About.com

These days safer sex is no longer optional, which means active guys should have a condom on hand at all times. Theoretically, buying a condom should be an easy and accessibly transaction. Unfortunately, the purchase is still riddled with embarrassed buyers and inconveniently placed condom selections. Also, with the increasing number of custom types (XXL, X-tra small, etc.) and their clearly labeled packaging, it's understandable how one might shy away from the counter.

Don't let the awkwardness of buying a condom keep you from keeping it safe. Here are a tips on how to buy a condom without taking the walk of shame.
Time Required: Varies
Here's How:
  1. Go for comfort. Finding a comfortable condom brand is the obvious. It's also important to find a store or pharmacy in which you feel comfortable shopping. You're more apt to spend more time sifting through the variety of condom brands in a familiar low-traffic environment—in other words, one where you don't have to ask the clerk where the condoms are or where you can look without a herd of people passing by. Scope out and familiarize yourself with a pharmacy other than your normal outlet. Make this new destination your exclusive designated condom and lube spot.

  2. Research the brands. Know at least what type of condom you need before you visit your new condom shop. Sample the free bar condoms to see which ones you like and which you don't. Do you prefer one brand over another? Do you like lubricated, non-lubricated, or flavored condoms? Do you need a larger or smaller fit? Once you've narrowed down your preferred choice, it's easier to walk into a store, grab and go.

  3. Own the purchase. Keep your head up while you're looking at the boxes, when you grab the box, as you stand in line all the way through the purchase. There's no need to be embarrassed by the other shoppers or the cashier. No one should judge you for using a condom. If they're not using them too, they probably should be. It's easy to scope penis sizes due to the all too clear packaging. No matter what your special needs, own it! Keep in mind, even if someone judges you for your specific needs, you can always fall back on the reason why you need the condoms in the first place.
