Sodomy Laws

Friday July 4, 2003
The history and origin of sodomy laws in America can be dated back to the reign of King Henry VIII of England. For hundreds of years since, homosexual sex (or sodomy) has been considered a sinful act against God (referencing the story of Sodom and Gomorrah) and thus punishable by law. In recent decades, the separation of church and state has sparked debate over an individual's right to engage in any form of consensual sex.

However, by striking down the sodomy law in the State of Texas, the U.S. Supreme Court has significantly advanced the efforts of gay and lesbian organizations in the fight for privacy in the bedroom.

Join the debate over the legality of sodomy! Should sodomy remain illegal?
