A Decision In Cali or All Smoke And Mirrors?

Wednesday April 15, 2009
The California Supreme Court may decide on the constitutionality of Proposition 8 as early as April 20th, according to Queerty. The date is only speculation, but Queerty uncovered a permit issued by the Los Angeles Police Department released late Tuesday informing citizens of a "Prop 8 Decision Day & Rally March" planned for April 20th.

Who's organizing the march? The permit was filed by Christopher Street West, the group responsible for the Los Angeles Pride Parade. And why doesn't anyone know about a decision on 4/20? Queerty isn't any more clear on the planned march than we are, but something is a brewin' and if Queerty is right, April 20th could be a landmark day:

"The idea that a gay organization would not immediately share this news with other gay groups so that they could have time to organize is surprising to say the least. We seriously considered the possibility that this was just some random Prop. 8 rally and march, but after rereading it a few times– and looking at the planned protest march route, which mirrors some of the November Prop. 8 demonstration routes, it's obvious that this planned event is meant to be large in scope."

Jeremy Hooper over at Good As You is also keeping tabs on this "Day of Decision":

"A marriage decision on 4/20, the international day for smokers to embrace their sticky, green goods? Fine," Hooper says. "Here's just hoping the CA court puts peace in their pipe and smokes it, realizing that the bias bowl was cashed long ago."
