Australia Keeps Ban On Gay Marriage

By , About.com GuideSeptember 19, 2012

Follow me on:

Australia's House of Representatives rejected a bill Wednesday to legalize gay marriage.

The bill is one of four to be introduced to the legislature.

Government minister Anthony Albanese said, "I think at some future time our Parliament will catch up with community opinion, just as it has on other issues."

Prime Minister Julia Gillard opposes same-sex marriage even though the Labor party reversed its opinion to gay unions.

Marriage is defined as between one man and one woman under Australian law. A second bill to lift the ban will be heard by the Senate on Wednesday.

Looks to me that Australia are becoming a 3rd World country in their way of thinking. Maybe one day they just might wake up and lift the ban on same sex marriages.
