Gay British Flamingos Adopt a Chick

I love a good warm and feathery story; even when it's just about animals. And we're in dire need of a good zoo love tale, especially since one of our famed gay Central Park Zoo penguins left not only his partner, but also their adopted chick for a female... Birds!

Now I can smile again. After a six-year relationship, two gay flamingos named Carlos and Fernando have adopted an abandoned chick. Before the adoption the two had been causing quite a stir at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge near Bristol. Desperate to start a family, they were chasing other flamingos away from their nests to take over the eggs. Now, the pair has been given a chick of their own to raise.

According to a Yahoo! News report, they can feed the chick by producing milk in their throats.

WWT spokeswoman Jane Waghorn told Y! News,
"They were rather good at sitting on eggs and hatching them so last week, when a nest was abandoned, it seemed like a good idea to make them surrogate parents."

Don't believe animals can be gay?
Check out this report on an exhibition called "Against Nature" at the Oslo Natural History Museum. Exhibitioner Geir Soeli says,
"We may have opinions on a lot of things, but one thing is clear—homosexuality is found throughout the animal kingdom, it is not against nature."
