Definition: Gay rights activists are more then just advocates. They work in the legal, social, and economic interests of all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender peoples. Gay rights activists increase awareness, protest, or lobby for equal gay rights. An person does not have to be a member of a formal organization to be considered an activist, nor does the degree of activism dictate a claim of being an activist. In our digital age, many activists use social media and mobile devices to advocate in the interests of LGBT people.
