Gay community centers are primarily privately-funded community organizations focused on providing services and programs for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Many glbt community centers have become a social venue and safe haven for glbt youth and adults.

What services do gay community centers offer?

Services and programs vary by center, but most offer adult and youth support groups, alcohol and drug counseling, free condoms and safe sex advice, book clubs, dances and social events, suicide hotlines and other community services.

Is there a fee to visit a gay community center or to take advantage of their services?

No. Most programs and services are offered for free. Sometimes special events or programs are offered for a nominal fee. You're welcome to just stop in and join a group or take advantage of the many services that are offered. However, since most centers don't receive public funding, volunteers and donations are always accepted.

I'm not gay, should I visit a gay community center?

Even though glbt community centers are focused on programs for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people all are welcome and encouraged to visit. Gay community centers are a place to interact and learn about the glbt community in a bias free environment.
