Lawrence Webb Makes History:
Lawrence Webb is a city councilman in Falls Church, Virginia. Webb made history after his successful bid in May of 2008 becoming the first openly LGBT African-American elected official in the State of Virginia.

Webb, an assistant dean of admissions at the University of Mary Washington, is an active member of the Falls Church City Democratic Committee, serves on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission and was appointed by former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner to the board of the Department of Correctional Education.
Lawrence Webb on Being Black and Gay in Politics:
"I also hope my election opens the door for others to get involved in public service," Webb said in a statement. "It doesn’t matter if you’re gay or black or both. What matters is your dedication to building a better community and your willingness to work hard at it."
